Job Overview:

Edward and Jones Concrete Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Project Manager / Estimator to oversee and estimate residential, commercial, industrial, and government construction projects. This dual-role position requires an individual with strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic planning abilities to ensure projects are bid accurately and managed efficiently. You'll be responsible for estimating project costs, overseeing budgets, scheduling, and ensuring timely completion while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimating Responsibilities:
    • Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.
    • Assess labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive bid proposals.
    • Maintain knowledge of market trends, material pricing, and subcontractor rates.
    • Prepare and submit accurate bid packages within deadlines.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide value-engineering solutions.
  • Project Management Responsibilities:
    • Plan, schedule, and oversee construction projects from inception to completion.
    • Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines to ensure efficiency and profitability.
    • Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company quality standards.
    • Address on-site challenges and resolve conflicts proactively.
    • Prepare and present project progress reports to leadership and clients.
    • Supervise and mentor construction teams, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.
    • Utilize advanced project management and estimating software (HCSS software experience preferred).
  • Strong ability to prepare and develop, and finalize project estimates from initial concept to completion using hard bid, design-build and conceptual estimating. Involves trade partners and vendors in the estimating process. Understands unit prices and has a thorough understanding of overall trade scope and pricing.
  • Reads and understands owner and subcontractor contract language, ensures objectives of contracts are met and delivers on contract obligations of the firm. Responsibilities include contract development, pre-contract reviews, and final contract language and contract negotiations.
  • Develops and inputs project budgets for cost tracking and forecasting. Works closely with the Superintendent to review project budgets and productivity on a weekly basis. Provides job forecasting monthly to accurately reflect project costs to completion of the project. Understands and evaluates project extras and change orders.
  • Works closely with project team members and Superintendent to develop the project schedule and implement schedule monitoring and adjustment periods throughout the construction project.
  • Works closely with the Superintendent to develop and monitor the site-specific safety plan. Ensures subcontractors meet safety obligations to provide a safe project site.
  • Provides exceptional project management skills in all areas of communication, time management, customer service, client and team interaction, process, and work flow. Understands the risks and responsibilities of project delivery.
  • Able to review plans and specifications in detail to understand the constructability of materials and systems. Understands the constraints and advantages of different building materials, methods, and impact on the project budget and schedule.
  • Builds and embraces a culture of continuous improvement
  • Develop, update, and finalize project estimates from initial concept through the establishment of a Guaranteed Maximum Price. Involves subcontractors and vendors in the estimating process. Understands unit prices and has a thorough understanding of overall trade scope and pricing.

Qualifications:
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction estimating and project management.
    • Project size >$1.0+ m
    • Proficiency in estimating and project management software (HCSS Software, Microsoft Office, MS Project and Foundation).
    • Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety standards, and best practices.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to work on union projects and navigate prevailing wage requirements.
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.
    • Desire to grow with our company and advance to a senior project manager position

    • Diverse project experience
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
    • Experience managing residential, commercial, industrial, and government projects.
    • Advanced construction safety certifications (OSHA, Fall Protection, etc.).
